Born in Kenya, Ravinder has a rich and colourful heritage that doesn&rsquo;t only inspire her London restaurant, <a href="https://www.jikonilondon.com/">Jikoni</a>, but has been used to inform the rich palette she has curated using the luxury paint in the Heritage Collection.

&ldquo;My palette evokes a sense of my heritage,&rdquo; explains Ravinder, &ldquo;such as my family home in Kenya, the kitchens I grew up in and the sumptuous ingredients I love to use in my cooking.&rdquo; Of her childhood home, Ravinder recalls the rich, volcanic red soil underfoot outside; a pistachio terrazzo floor in the house; and a guava tree in the garden that bore fruit with custardy-pink insides. &ldquo;All these colours signify happy times,&rdquo; she says, &ldquo;and create a sense of familiarity and nostalgia.&rdquo;

A flush of pink to the cheeks is often the first sign of attraction, and on the walls of our homes, this uplifting shade never fails to put a smile on our face &ndash; it makes us feel young, happy, nurtured and warm&hellip;&rdquo;

Both comforting and chic, with an eclectic bohemian edge to them, Ravinder&rsquo;s hues are indeed homely and happy &ndash; &ldquo;like a hug on the wall.&rdquo; And much like the restaurateur&rsquo;s love of layering, they can be used to spectacular effect together, or simply as bold, colourful statements by themselves. &ldquo;We have spent so much time in our homes, especially over the pandemic,&rdquo; says Ravinder, &ldquo;so I seek out warm colours that make me feel at home. I like tones that make me feel nurtured and uplifted.&rdquo; Certainly, the earthy and natural shades in the restaurateur&rsquo;s selection work to cocoon and console, which is exactly what everyone needs as we emerge from a challenging couple of years.

&lsquo;Considered luxury&rsquo; is the signature aesthetic of interior designer Christian Bense &ndash; a cross-pollination of contemporary and traditional styles that feels &ldquo;effortlessly curated&rdquo; &ndash; and his innovative use of colour is one of the simplest ways his expert look can be achieved in your own home.

Born in South Africa to a photographer mother and a builder father, creativity runs in Christian&rsquo;s veins, and his namesake studio in London is testament to his talent with a portfolio of high-end residential and commercial projects. Rather impressively, House &amp; Garden included him in its prestigious &lsquo;30 up-and-coming talents you need to know about&rsquo; list, which is quite the accolade. Naturally, Christian was the perfect choice when it came to collaborating with three creatives to curate their own palettes, all using the luxury paint in our Heritage Collection.
The brief was to evoke the sensory quality of our timeless colours &ndash; marrying classics from the past with the contemporary hues of today &ndash; and pay respect to the tactile nature of our paint, all reflecting his profession and personality. The expert palette he has devised comprises striking deep tones that certainly make an impact.

Christian enthuses of his colours: &ldquo;Without a doubt, there is a moodiness to my palette. Darker, dustier colours like these lend themselves to a greater level of versatility than lighter shades. They don&rsquo;t always have to shout &ndash; they can whisper, too. My palette is an example of that restraint.&rdquo;
Of his mustardy yellow, Marianne Shillingford, creative director at Dulux, adds: &ldquo;We need a bit of sunshine in our lives more than ever right now and yellow gives us an instant slug of joy. Christian&rsquo;s has a mustard bite that awakens the senses and simply won&rsquo;t be ignored &ndash; this yellow is perfect for bedrooms if you find it hard to get going in the morning, in north-facing rooms that need a bit of warming up, or in elegant sitting rooms where the guilty pleasure of Georgian opulence is truly what you desire.&rdquo;

Interestingly, Christian never uses white &ndash; in fact, he refuses. The designer explains that he has always been drawn to &lsquo;non-colours&rsquo; &ndash; the kind they never taught you in school &ndash; that tend to sit within a range of tones rather than being strictly one or the other. &ldquo;For example,&rdquo; he says, &ldquo;<a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780044/olive-tree">Olive Tree</a> is more grey than green, and when paired with bronze accents, it feels quite edgy and masculine. Contrast that with <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780044/olive-tree">Olive Tree</a> teamed with <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780008/masters-gold">Masters Gold</a> or cream to draw out its green tones and create a softer, calmer mood. When used in design, colours like these really allow one to take any direction you choose&hellip;&rdquo;
The same can be said of the shades Christian has selected for his palette &ndash; described by him as &ldquo;an open door&rdquo; because of their flexibility. Indeed, the warm, earthy tones spark the imagination, whether used together for a rich and layered look; or simply as bold and characterful statements by themselves. Either way, you&rsquo;re guaranteed rooms that flow and feel connected. Have fun and experiment &ndash; there&rsquo;s no right or wrong way.
To complement Christian&rsquo;s colours, think about furniture and furnishings in similarly earthy tones, leaning into the likes of ochre to add warmth and luxury. Team with natural textures in polished wood and buttery leathers and mix in mid-century pieces with more modern styles. Smart and sumptuous, the aim is to achieve a textural and sensory space, though of course, self-expression is key. &nbsp;

&ldquo;Use colour as a neutral rather than an accent,&rdquo; Christian advises. &ldquo;Most of us use light colours as the base for our rooms, layering brighter shades in art and furniture, so just flip the layering process. Go for bold walls instead and layer in lighter tones to break it up. For example, a room painted in a deep red starts to feel a lot less like a red box once you&rsquo;ve started to add a lighter coloured sofa, art on the walls and even lighting. In short, don&rsquo;t just side-line colour as the accent. Use it as the headline act.&rdquo;

In some circles, florists are the new celebrities, and such is the case of Iona Mathieson and Romy St Clair: the dynamic duo behind Sage Flowers in Peckham.
As we rediscovered our love of nature during the pandemic, and developed a new-found appreciation for the simple things (including the spark of pure joy a fresh bunch of flowers can elicit), the modern florist has developed quite the following thanks to its signature colourful, contemporary style. With neither founder trained in classic floristry, they are known for throwing out all the rules simply because they haven&rsquo;t been taught them, and look to the beauty of nature for their bold displays. Of their signature pinks, Marianne Shillingford, creative director at Dulux, adds: &ldquo;All pinks have become popular in the past few years but none so much as the blush-pink shades that capture the essence of what is to be happy and loved. It&rsquo;s one of the subtlest hues of pink and creates a cosy atmosphere for when you want a welcoming look. It makes us feel young, happy, nurtured and warm.&rdquo;
Soft and delicate, use the shades in the collection together for a layered and luxurious look that borrow elements from Mother Nature; or simply as pretty and feminine statements by themselves. Pick a pastel as the main colour: <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780101/powder-colour">Powder Colour</a> makes for a beautiful backdrop; then, much like assembling a beautifully balanced bunch of flowers, throw in an accent in a more dramatic shade like <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780077/florentine-red">Florentine Red</a>, and plump for woodwork in <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780097/pale-olivine">Pale Olivine</a>. There are no rules, though &ndash; have fun, experiment, and find your inner florist.

To style up the palette, look to modern d&eacute;cor to reflect its contemporary nature, from furniture in bold shapes (curves are trending) and luxe materials such as marble and glass. Colour-wise, think about similar pastel shades: a rose-pink chair or a baby-blue table, for example. Finally, finish with accessories in brightly-coloured class or matte porcelain, and add a bunch of fresh flowers &ndash; stylish and structural, of course.
&ldquo;Try to think about what you&rsquo;ll have filling the rooms, such as the soft furnishings,&rdquo; concludes Iona. &ldquo;Ask yourself: what will complement my things?&rdquo;

1. Building blocks &nbsp;
Where to start? &ldquo;Amazing hotels, favourite restaurants and memorable holiday homes are brilliant sources of colour inspiration that evoke good memories,&rdquo; says Marianne. &ldquo;You can use the look and feel of your favourite places and spaces as a springboard for decorating schemes that capture some of your best moments and the simplest pleasures. Why not take a sneaky picture or two when you&rsquo;re out and about and add them to your own personal colour lookbook as you begin to build a moodboard?&rdquo; Don&rsquo;t just look at painted walls, either, but accents on woodwork and windows, as well as how colours have been combined or contrasted. Then, admire how hoteliers, restaurateurs or hosts have layered colour using textiles, furniture and accessories, which often bring a palette to life by adding interest and depth. Remember: there are no rules, so consider complementary or clashing shades as much as perfect matches, just as interior designers do. Be bold and experiment.

Next? Open your closet to unleash a catwalk of creativity. Explains Marianne: &ldquo;Our wardrobes are probably one of the richest sources of colour that reveal who we really are and what makes us happy. We all have a palette of shades that makes us look our best and you can use your favourite outfits &ndash; the ones that help you feel your most gorgeous and confident &ndash; as inspiration to make your rooms look their best, too.&rdquo; Indeed, a soft cashmere sweater in a cosy colour, or a summer dress in a pastel shade, can spark the imagination and set the wheels in motion for a palette that comes together as if by magic. Your orange skirt paired with a pink blouse look chic for the beach? Then add a splash of fun with the same combination in your dressing room. Your baby-blue trousers teamed with a crisp white shirt look dreamy for dinner? Throw the pairing together for a soft and soothing dining room. Dig deep into your style and consider the colours of your clothing to create spaces that are a true reflection of you.

&ldquo;We feast with our eyes. If something looks good, it&rsquo;ll probably taste good, and it&rsquo;s not just food that should be a delicious sensory experience,&rdquo; says Marianne. &ldquo;Colours can capture the essence of a luxurious treat on your tastebuds. Because our paint feels smooth and velvety under your fingertips, too, you can create an experience of colour that goes far beyond the way they look.&rdquo; Think about the colours of your favourite dishes and how they would translate to your home d&eacute;cor and what impact those would have on the way you feel in each space. Consider lush greens bursting with vibrancy for relaxing and refreshing kitchens or dining rooms; and sweet pastels that capture the childlike quality of an ice-cream sundae for fun bedrooms and playrooms. Adds Marianne: &ldquo;Red is a colour that helps to make food taste sweeter and conversation flow more easily in spaces where we eat and entertain, so if you want to encourage happier and more lively mealtimes, try a generous pinch of rouge!&rdquo;

4. Nature calls &nbsp;
Finally, look beyond interiors to get inspired for your palette, starting with what&rsquo;s right outside your front door. Marianne says: &ldquo;There&rsquo;s nothing that soothes the soul more than getting out into the countryside where we can be close to nature. It&rsquo;s nature&rsquo;s palette that has always provided the greatest source of colours we want to have on our walls, so it&rsquo;s no surprise that 61 of the 112 colours in the Heritage Collection are inspired by the land, sea, sky and natural materials. &ldquo;Some of the most personal things we keep like photos, keepsakes and even memories are the most powerful forms of inspiration for the way we style and live in our homes,&rdquo; says Marianne. &ldquo;The colour of favourite matching dresses my sister and I wore as kids immediately takes me back to a time when life was simpler, and the sun shone every day in an endless summer. I use the same shades of pink and cream as often as I can in decorating and each time I use them I am a giggling, happy eight-year-old again. Colour and memory, just like taste and smell, take us gently by the hand back to places, people and things we love from the past. They are powerful and multi-sensory and we should always include a palette of these precious colours in our decision-making when it comes to decorating spaces that are truly unique to who we are.&rdquo; So, take a leaf out of Marianne&rsquo;s book, and think back to cherished times to inspire, whether it&rsquo;s browsing through an old photo album to trigger memories, or rifling through a box of keepsakes that evokes moments. At home with Heritage: create your own tastemaker palette

To pay homage to the sensory quality of the shades in the Heritage Collection &ndash; which blend the classic colours of times gone by with the contemporary hues of tomorrow &ndash; we asked three creatives to curate palettes that reflect who they are.

<a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/inspiration/article/143/create-your-tastemaker-palette">Here</a>, we explained how you could curate your own palette using the 112 colours in our range, with expert tips from our creative director Marianne Shillingford. She explained where to look for inspiration &ndash; whether the spaces and places around you, or the clothing, food and memories you cherish &ndash; and encouraged you to be bold and experiment.

But while there&rsquo;s an art to curating a palette, applying it to surfaces is more of a science, as marketing manager Stephanie King explains. &ldquo;Pulling together a decoration scheme for your home can often feel overwhelming, with so many colour choices and pieces of inspiration out there, not to mention the opinions of your nearest and dearest!&rdquo; She continues: &ldquo;Even the professionals suffer from idea-overload sometimes, but one important thing always remains true: stick to what you love. Once you&rsquo;ve found that perfect &lsquo;anchor&rsquo; in your room, or an object or pattern you just can&rsquo;t live without, the rest will start to fall into place. Then, with some insider tips and tricks under your belt, you&rsquo;ll be off to a flying start in turning your vision into a reality. The glorious thing about our range is that a lot of the hard work has been done for you. Our colour experts have compiled timeless shades that will outlive trends as well as stand up to the tough standards of a busy home. Looking beautiful is one thing, but working beautifully is completely another, and the Heritage Collection delivers both in spades.&rdquo;

<h3>Try before committing to your colour</h3>
Once you&rsquo;ve selected a suite of shades, it&rsquo;s important to visualise them on your surfaces, as sometimes your imagination doesn&rsquo;t paint an accurate picture. Steph says: &ldquo;Imagining how colours will work together on a practical level is one of the toughest tasks when it comes to bringing your vision to life. After all, how do you know if the combination works? My go-to is looking at our free printed <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/products/details/dulux-heritage-colour-card">Dulux Heritage Colour Card</a> as the hues are displayed in an inspiring and intuitive way. They start with popular, modern neutrals, then flow through the colour spectrum from warm, reds, ochres and golds, to cool greens, teals and violets. Looking vertically, each column of colour is split into pale, mid and deep tones of every shade, all creating their own unique look and feel. If you&rsquo;re looking to create light, airy and dream-like spaces for tranquillity, then sticking within the pale tones is a sure-fire way to succeed, whereas the deep tones will create cosy, sumptuous and sultry rooms perfect for enveloping yourself in.&rdquo; But the best bit, according to Steph, is the coordinating white. &ldquo;Every column of colour has a perfect white that coordinates effortlessly with the colour above it. Take <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780004/chalk-white" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chalk White</a>, for example, with a fresh, crisp nature that works brilliantly with the cool greys above it. Likewise, <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780093/marble-white">Marble White</a> with its delicate hint of warmth contrasts beautifully with the pinks and reds it sits beneath.&rdquo; Enabling you to choose the perfect palette completely seamlessly, the <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/products/details/dulux-heritage-colour-card">Colour Card</a> is one of the most powerful tools in your decorating arsenal, and better still it&rsquo;s complimentary.

<h3>Put your paint to the test</h3>
The saying &lsquo;try before you buy&rsquo; is never truer than when it comes to paint. After all, making a mistake with colour isn&rsquo;t only a waste of time and money, but you&rsquo;ll have to live with a shade you don&rsquo;t like unless you change it. Says Steph: &ldquo;An absolute must-do before you dive in is to test your paint before committing your time and money. Colour can change so readily depending on different factors, such as the orientation of the room, the amount of natural light it receives, and the types of artificial lighting, not to mention the other colours around it. My advice would be to paint a sample as big as you can manage onto a piece of good quality paper or white card. Paint to the edges so any white space doesn&rsquo;t interfere with your final impression. It&rsquo;s a bit of a faff &ndash; let&rsquo;s be honest &ndash; but you&rsquo;ll thank yourself for doing it later.&rdquo; Remember: always move the card around to show the colour in different spaces and in varying lights throughout the day.

<h3>Get prepared before you start </h3>
&ldquo;The key to getting the very best finish is all in the preparation,&rdquo; says Steph, &ldquo;and that includes having everything you need to get started before painting. As everything in the Heritage Collection is water-based, you&rsquo;ll need good-quality synthetic brushes to complete the job for both your walls and woodwork. I particularly like a brush with a tapered edge to help with cutting-in as it gives you more control and gets into those tricky corners with ease. You&rsquo;ll also need some great masking tape. Whatever you do, try not to scrimp here, as the papery beige kind will strip your walls of the plasterwork, not to mention the paint! Usually, I use a masking tape suitable for delicate surfaces that contains a paint-blocking technology to stop it bleeding through to the colour underneath. This ensures you have crisp, clean lines.&rdquo; While it may be an upfront investment, buying the right tools saves you time and effort, as you&rsquo;ll have everything you need to do the job properly. &ldquo;Next,&rdquo; says Steph, &ldquo;it&rsquo;s about prepping your walls by filling all the holes, caulking any gaps around woodwork and sanding down to a smooth surface. There are great fillers on the market that dry in as a little as 20 minutes, so while the task may add some time initially, it will pay off when you stand back to admire immaculate walls. I recommend high-performance Polycell Advanced Polyfilla for a seamless finish in no time at all with its quick-dry technology and super-lightweight formula.&rdquo; &nbsp;

<h3>Apply yourself &ndash; and the paint </h3>
Now comes the fun bit: getting the colour on the wall. Says Steph: &ldquo;Make sure you give the paint a good stir before you decant it into your roller tray as there may be some slight separation where it has been sat in the tin. If the paint is quite thick in consistency, dampen the brush a little, as it helps thin it out while you&rsquo;re applying so it runs smoothly over the surface. I always get a lot of questions from people who are nervous about cutting-in the edges of a room, or around things on the wall, but my advice is to do it first using a tapered brush. It&rsquo;s a personal preference, but I don&rsquo;t tape my edges, using a steady hand to cut-in around them instead.&rdquo; She adds: &ldquo;It&rsquo;s really tempting to go slowly with lots of little strokes, or to butt the brush up into the corner for a straight edge, but this hardly ever works. Start off somewhere inconspicuous &ndash; behind a piece of furniture, for example &ndash; using long, smooth strokes in a fluid motion. Hold your brush with the tips of the bristles touching the wall vertically, rather than having the flat face of the brush towards you, to give you more control. Ensure you have a wet wipe or tissue handy to wipe away any small mistakes you make when the paint is wet &ndash; it&rsquo;s much easier to clean than cover it when it&rsquo;s dry.&rdquo;

<h3>Finally, finish with a flourish </h3>
There&rsquo;s nothing better than standing back and relishing in the satisfaction of a job well done. But it&rsquo;s important to look carefully at the colour and see how it works in the room. How does it look in the morning compared to the evening? Does it change in different lights? Only once you&rsquo;ve lived with your palette for a few days can you really understand how to bring out the best in it. Steph says: &ldquo;Go back to your moodboard and remind yourself of the overall look you wanted to create. Choose furniture and accessories for your space that use the same colour palette and select a prized possession for prime position. I&rsquo;m a big fan of colour and pattern, so I start with the items that have the biggest impact in the room. In my living room, I chose a patterned rug with reds, reals and olives, which became my &lsquo;anchor&rsquo;. With this in place, I chose <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780050/midnight-teal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Midnight Teal</a> and <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780028/raw-cashmere" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Raw Cashmere</a> for the walls, with pops of <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780102/pugin-red" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pugin Red</a> and <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780073/dh-slate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DH Slate</a> on upcycled furniture. It&rsquo;s also important to be sympathetic to the property but not become a slave to it. So, to combat my Cotswold stone walls and quirky beams, I added in more modern, unexpected design touches in accessories and furniture.&rdquo; She adds: &ldquo;In order for your scheme to have impact, and avoid looking like a melee of similar colours and textures, include an element of punch. I like to use a colour that either pops or grounds a scheme, such as navy, brown or black, together with a strong graphic pattern like striped cushions. The same method also works with a pop of bright colour in light schemes. In my living room, I&rsquo;ve added cherry-red bobbin frames and cushions with a geometric pattern in a darker shade. It doesn&rsquo;t have to be a lot, but it will make the difference between a good and great designer transformation.&rdquo; &nbsp;

At home with Heritage: bring your tastemaker palette to life

Recently, we tasked three very different tastemakers to devise colour palettes that reflect who they are, while paying homage to the sensory quality of the shades in the Heritage Collection.
Blending the classic colours of times gone by with the contemporary hues of tomorrow, the paint in our range provided a blank canvas for the trio of creatives, and the result is <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/inspiration/article/133/tastemaker-ravinder-bhogal">The Restaurateur Palette</a> by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/cookinboots/?hl=en">Ravinder Bhogal</a>, <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/inspiration/article/137/tastemaker-christian-bense">The Interior Designer Palette</a> by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/christian_bense/?hl=en">Christian Bense</a> and <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/inspiration/article/139/tastemaker-sage-flowers">The Florist&rsquo;s Palette</a> by Iona and Romy from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sage.flowers/">Sage Flowers</a>. All of them are completely unique and utterly beautiful. Ravinder&rsquo;s evocative palette was inspired by her rich upbringing in Kenya full of exoticism and flavour; Christian was drawn to the dramatic schemes that have become a signature in his sophisticated palette; and Iona and Romy&rsquo;s whimsical palette reflects their most creative and colourful projects from the past.&nbsp;
Here, we asked three influencers &ndash; all of whom caught our eye with their spectacular schemes on Instagram &ndash; to pick their favourite colours from the Tastemaker palettes, or simply to curate their own! <h3>A debonair office of dreams </h3>

Lins is the brains behind <a href="https://www.booandmaddie.com/">Boo &amp; Maddie</a> &ndash; a lifestyle and home blog &ndash; and the personality at the helm of the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/linsdrabwell/">@LinsDrabwell</a> account on Instagram. Motivated by the dark and dramatic palette of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/christian_bense/?hl=en">Christian Bense</a>, she styled up a home office for her husband in their 1930s house in South-East London, creating a refreshed space for both work and play.
Why did you want to change your space?
&ldquo;When we moved into our home eight years ago, the small box bedroom at the back was the first space we completely renovated, turning it into a functional home office. We replastered the surfaces, replaced the windows, added new floors and installed smart shutters, making it a great room to use occasionally when we needed. Then, when we both had to work from home full-time during the pandemic, my husband took over and it no longer needed to work for both of us. So, I wanted to create a better use of the room, and this was the perfect opportunity to turn it into a more stylish home office.&rdquo;
What inspired your colour palette? 
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m naturally drawn to greens and already have a lot of paler shades around our home, but have never used a dark green to paint a whole room before. I&rsquo;d seen some gorgeous room transformations on Instagram and Pinterest using more olive-toned shades and it inspired me to step out of my comfort zone. I narrowed my selection down to <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780073/dh-slate">DH Slate</a> and <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780067/dh-drab">DH Drab</a>, opting for <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780073/dh-slate">DH Slate</a> in the end as it was the darker of the two, and the small office room really lends itself to deeper colours.&rdquo;
How does the colour palette make you feel?
&ldquo;It sounds like a strange thing to say, but it makes me feel completely joyous, as I&rsquo;m so pleased with the finished result. I&rsquo;d never been brave enough before to paint the woodwork and radiator the same colour as the walls &ndash; daft I know, as it&rsquo;s just paint at the end of the day! &ndash; but it works so well in this room. It has a traditional feel whilst also being a clean, modern shade &shy;&ndash; and I love the decadence. At the same time, the office hasn&rsquo;t lost any of its cosiness, especially during the evening when it really comes into its own. It's almost as if the space now serves two purposes &ndash;&nbsp;somewhere to work during the day and somewhere to retreat to at night.&rdquo;
How did you go about layering your palette with furniture and accessories? 
&ldquo;I knew I wanted to link the room to the others in the house by curating the same aesthetic. I continued the theme of green I have elsewhere, as well as the same wooden floors already installed in most rooms, adding a darker, industrial-looking desk for contrast. It&rsquo;s a similar look to our coffee table in the living room and adds to the gentleman&rsquo;s workspace I wanted to create. I switched out the existing plug sockets for black nickel, which match our kitchen, and installed some brass wall lights, plus neutral-toned styling on the shelf that both offsets and enhances the dark green walls.
What would you say to others looking for the confidence to curate a palette and change their space? 
This project has given me the confidence to really go for it and step out of my comfort zone &ndash; I would recommend anyone to do the same. Think about a base colour you really love &ndash; in my case, green &ndash; and don&rsquo;t be afraid to experiment with different shades of that base colour.&rdquo;

<h3>A seriously luxurious lean-to </h3>

Self-styled as &lsquo;ya fave pandemic renovator&rsquo;, Nadine has been documenting her DIY on the popular <a href="https://www.instagram.com/rona_renovation/">@RonaRenovation</a> Instagram account, and is fast becoming famous for her smart and savvy choices. Much like the palette curated by Iona and Roma from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sage.flowers/">Sage Flowers</a>, she sought inspiration in nature to transform a disused lean-to at her South London home, creating a gateway to the garden and carving out a luxurious utility at the same time.
Why did you want to change your space? 
&ldquo;Our lean-to area had been abandoned for way too long! We were piling things up in there, and not only was it a bad use of the space, but it was creating chaos in our otherwise serene home."
What inspired your colour palette? 
&ldquo;The lean-to acts as the bridge between the house and garden so I was keen on keeping the colour palette as earthy and natural as possible. I wanted shades that evoked a sense of peace, emanated warmth, and would complement greenery and plants.&rdquo;
How does the colour palette make you feel?
&ldquo;In short, serene and playful!&rdquo;
How did you go about layering your palette with furniture and accessories?
&ldquo;As I wanted to transform the space into a functioning utility, I had to consider two things. Firstly, that it was a small, narrow room with heavy foot-traffic; and secondly, that everything had to be done on a tight budget! So, I sourced white kitchen cupboards from the high-street that we assembled ourselves, and added a vinyl worktop. <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780094/mid-umber">Mid Umber</a> makes such a statement as the hero wall colour, so I wanted furnishings to look neutral, but not sterile. <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780060/chiltern-white">Chiltern White&trade;</a> was the perfect complementary shade for the cupboards to give the room character. A friend of mine sewed us a &lsquo;curtain door&rsquo; from gingham fabric to hide our ugly washing machine which feels fun and ties the scheme together. Finally, I accessorised an affordable pine shelf with personal trinkets and eclectic artwork.&rdquo;
What would you say to others looking for the confidence to curate a palette and change their space? 
&ldquo;Think about how you want the space to make you feel, and work backwards from there. Colour palettes are ultimately emotive, so if you want to create calm, start pulling together a neutral palette. If you want a room to feel playful, primaries or colour pops may work. Then consider what furnishings you&rsquo;re working with. Your forever pieces still need to suit the space, so sample lots of shades to ensure your palette complements your existing style.&rdquo;

Like our tastemaker <a href="https://www.instagram.com/cookinboots/?hl=en">Ravinder Bhogal</a>, she used &nbsp;<a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/inspiration/article/133/tastemaker-ravinder-bhogal">The Restaurateur Palette</a> to evoke her own heritage, and create a sanctuary in her bedroom at her home in North London.
Why did you want to change your space? 
&ldquo;We&rsquo;d worked so hard over several months transforming our master bedroom as part of our renovation, but had only half-finished, as it always got pushed down the to-do list. The chance to get creative with one of the tastemaker palettes inspired us to finally get the job done! I can&rsquo;t believe we waited so long &ndash; the space is a wonderful sanctuary now.&rdquo;
What inspired your colour palette? 
&ldquo;Dulux Heritage asked us to design a room that took inspiration from the <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/inspiration/article/133/tastemaker-ravinder-bhogal">The Restaurateur Palette</a> curated by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/cookinboots/?hl=en">Ravinder Bhogal</a> to evoke memories of her childhood growing up in Kenya. <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780048/veranda-green">Veranda Green</a> and <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/colours/1780013/brushed-gold">Brushed Gold</a> spoke to me as they remind me of own heritage and the landscapes of Jordan.&rdquo;
How does the colour palette make you feel?
&ldquo;Content: I love to decorate based on memories as it gives a totally unique and personal feel to every room.&rdquo;
How did you go about layering your palette with furniture and accessories? 
&ldquo;I spent many of my daughter&rsquo;s nap times making a bespoke oversized headboard from raw silk. I added framed pressed flowers from my garden and included vintage pieces like an antique bobbin stool, teak mid-century mirror and wardrobe handed down from my husband&rsquo;s grandfather."
What would you say to others looking for the confidence to curate a palette and change their space? 
&ldquo;Think about how you want to feel in the space. Inspired? Calm? Joyful? Relaxed? Then think back to a time you felt that way &ndash; I find looking at photos helps. What colour was the sky? The scenery? Have a look at the <a href="https://www.duluxheritage.co.uk/en/products/details/dulux-heritage-colour-card">Colour Card</a> &ndash; do you see a match?
