How we’re reducing carbon emissions and racing to net zero

Our passion for paint and colour is matched only by our commitment to colouring people’s lives and reducing our environmental impact. The way we see it, the beautiful colours in the Dulux Heritage collection will never stand the test of time if the earth doesn’t either. That’s why we’re taking a brighter approach to the way we do business. We’re determined to not only help you decorate your home but make a positive difference to our communities and minimise the impact on our collective home.

Our sustainability goals

We’ve set science-based, environmental sustainability targets to halve our carbon emissions across our entire supply chain by 50% by 2030, using a 2018 baseline (Climate change | AkzoNobel). We’re making progress, and AkzoNobel has already reduced this impact by 9% (Annual report | AkzoNobel). So, you can feel reassured in knowing that our final product is becoming increasingly more sustainable. Resulting in a brand you can really get behind. Products you can believe in. Paint you can pour your heart into. And colour that has a conscience.

It’s a race to zero

The future is now, so the time to act is today. Alongside our 2030 targets, we’re also committed to being a net-zero company by 2050 (Climate change | AkzoNobel). We’re constantly taking steps to be more sustainable while creating the colours you love, from reducing our waste to cutting down our VOCs, all of which mean we’re doing our bit to reduce greenhouse gasses. Creating strictly water-based paint – like those in the Dulux Heritage collection – certainly helps, as does powering our plants with renewable electricity and reused water. Small steps that contribute to a big impact.

Giving back

To us, the idea of sustainability isn’t confined to the creation of environmentally friendly paint. We also consider our social sustainability efforts and how we can help make the world a brighter, better place. We’re proud sponsors of Community RePaint, a UK-wide paint reuse network that collects and redistributes leftover paint to improve lives within communities, whether it’s transforming community centres or painting over graffiti.

Waste Less

As well as doing good for local communities, Community RePaint helps our customers waste less. With the average household laying claim to 17 part-used tins collecting dust in sheds, garages and cupboards, the initiative provides a practical way of disposing of unwanted paint. If you’ve recently finished a decorating project and have leftover paint stashed away, do your bit and donate to your local scheme.

Dulux Heritage Sustainability Commitments Testers

Can-do attitude

Lastly, the metal cans we dispense our paint into are 100% recyclable, meaning they can be disposed of safely and responsibly according to your local council guidelines. You can also recycle your empty paint cans for free at your local Dulux Decorator Centre.

Commit to colour

Not only do our colours and finishes deliver a distinctive look, but they also feel luxurious to touch. Choose from a velvety matt finish for walls and an eggshell with a soft sheen for woodwork. You can sample our shades with our tester pots, or if you already have a colour in mind, order a can of Dulux Heritage today.
